Case Study: Trex Enhance® Rocky Harbor Deck Replacement – Louisville, KY 40222

Completed between August 12 and August 22, this composite deck replacement in Louisville, KY features a full demolition of the existing deck and pergola, a redesigned layout, and a complete rebuild using Trex Enhance® Rocky Harbor decking. A&S Construction installed new 6x6 posts, ledger, and reinforced framing, converting the deck into one continuous level with a 6-foot-wide staircase at the far end. The rebuilt layout spans 14' x 11'2" and 19' x 19', totaling approximately 33 feet of deck width.
The new structure includes 12" on-center joists, full joist tape protection, and a premium deck surface built with Trex Enhance Naturals Rocky Harbor. The design features square-edge boards for the picture-frame border, divider boards, and stair treads, and grooved-edge boards with Trex hidden fasteners for a seamless main deck surface. Matching Trex Rocky Harbor 12" fascia and 8" stair risers complete the clean, finished look.
The railing system includes a pressure-treated wood rail frame with a 2x4 top and bottom rail, Trex surface rail cap, and black aluminum balusters, with options available for future upgrades. A&S also constructed framing for full skirting and installed Nantucket Grey vinyl privacy lattice, including a 3' wide matching lattice gate for access beneath the deck.
Built using high-performance Trex materials, strong Simpson hardware, and premium PT framing components, this project delivers a low-maintenance, modern outdoor living space that enhances both function and curb appeal.
