Case Study: Trex Select® Saddle Deck + RainEscape System – Louisville, KY 40222
Completed between October 15 and October 23, this 335 sq ft Trex Select® Saddle deck renovation in Louisville, KY included a full demo, structural rebuild, RainEscape installation, and upgraded railing and fascia to match the home’s aesthetic. A&S Construction removed the existing deck, installed new 6x6 pressure-treated posts, framing, and 12" O.C. joists, and protected all framing with joist tape for long-term durability.
The deck surface features Trex Select Saddle square-edge boards for the picture-frame border and stair treads, with grooved-edge boards and Trex hidden fasteners for the main deck area. The project also includes Trex Select composite railing with black round balusters, plus new Saddle 12" fascia and 8" stair risers for a uniform, finished appearance. All exposed 6x6 posts were wrapped with black vinyl sleeves for a clean look.
A major upgrade includes a 247 sq ft Trex RainEscape® waterproofing system, installed beneath the upper deck and finished with Wicker vinyl soffit ceiling, creating a dry, usable space below. The system includes downspouts, troughs, wall flashing, ledger tape, sub-ledger tape, and full drainage management.
