Case Study: Trex Enhance® Rocky Harbor Deck + Gabled Patio Cover – Louisville, KY 40222

Completed between April 28 and May 15, this full-scale deck and patio cover renovation in Louisville, KY included a complete demo of the existing structures, a full rebuild of the deck framing, and the construction of a brand-new gabled roof system. A&S Construction installed new 6x6 posts, beams, and pressure-treated framing, adjusted ground elevations with gravel, and rebuilt the deck on one uniform level, raising one section by 5" and lowering another by 2" for a smoother layout.
The new deck was constructed using 12" O.C. joists, full joist taping, and Trex Enhance Naturals Rocky Harbor decking. The design includes square-edge boards for the picture frame border and stair treads, grooved boards with Trex hidden fasteners for the main surface, and Trex Rocky Harbor fascia and 8" risers for a clean, finished look. One 8' Trex Signature Black rail section with black square balusters provides safety while maintaining an open view. The deck also features black vinyl privacy lattice along the higher side and near the staircase.
The project also includes a fully rebuilt 12' x 14' gabled patio cover, complete with:
- New 6x6 structural posts
- Beams, rafters, and purlins at 16" spacing
- Corrugated metal roofing panels, rake trim, ridge cap, sealants, and closures
- Open-rafter interior aesthetic
- No gutter system for a clean, simple roofline
Built with premium Trex materials, structural Simpson hardware, lattice accents, and a durable metal roof system, this project delivers a modern, low-maintenance outdoor living space perfect for year-round use.
